FIBKA Membership Offers

  • Annual Summer Course - Gormanston College: Mid-late July - details from the Summer Course Convenor.
  • Annual Congress - AGM held end of August, send Association Delegates as per FIBKA Constitution.
  • Annual Beekeeping Proficiency Examinations, Course Week Gormanston, and also at provincial centres. Consult the Education Officer.
  • Annual National Honey Show - Course Week, Gormanston College.
  • Insurance - Members of Associations affiliated to FIBKA are fully insured against third party liability. Particulars from: FIBKA Secretary.
  • Annual Supply of Sugar, for bee feeding, at reduced price.
  • The FIBKA publishes monthly Journal - "An Beachaire" (official organ of Federation). For details contact the Hon. Editor or Hon. Manager.
  • Comprehensive Library of Beekeeping Books and Videos. Books and videos on loan free, borrower pays return postage. Contact the Librarian.
  • Arbour Week - week following first Sunday in March. Tree plants (nectar bearing) are available at reduced price.
  • Special attractive Federation Honey Jar Labels, complete with bar code are available to members of Affiliated Associations who are also listed on the Insurance register. The Federation label acts as a seal over the cap of the honey jar and has a number on it and also the Federation's Logo. A record of the numbers is held by Michael Woulfe, who also administers the scheme. The labelling scheme is confined to FIBKA members who pack only Irish honey and whose names and addresses appear on the honey jar.
  • Lecture Notes -A series of lecture headings, suitable for Beginners'. Courses may be obtained from Peter Whyte.
  • Maintains a panel of lecturers to talk to associations
  • Working closely with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (DAFF) to promote the good health of bees.

Gorey BKA Beginners Course

Gorey BKA Beginners Course, run by Ben Harden NBD, starts on Tuesday 4th April and continues for 4 more Tuesdays, followed by practicals in the association apiary. Kilkenny Beginners Course!

It will run for the 4 Wednesday nights (15 Feb, 22 Feb, 1st March, 8 March) from 7.30 to 9.00 covering topics such as
Beekeeping Equipment, The occupants of the hive, The beekeeping year, honey harvesting and planting for bees and pollinators.

This will be followed a number of practical sessions during the rest of the year at our own Apiary and at other Apiaries where you will get first hand experience with colonies of Bees
