Gormanston beekeeping Summer School 2019

Message from Summer Course Convenor:

This Course is the 74th Annual Beekeeping Course organised by FIBKA and the 60th to be held at The Franciscan College, Gormanston, Co Meath.

It is an internationally renowned course, attracting beekeepers from all parts of the world. The range of lectures and workshops has universal appeal both for the beginner and the advanced enthusiast covering a wide programme in the practical and scientific areas.

There are four separate levels to the course, Preliminary, Intermediate, Senior and Workshops. Participants can move between the different levels as they wish and are not restricted to any one level.

The course is available as full Residential or on a Non- Residential daily reservation-see relevant reservation forms above.

For those on full residential, check in time is Sunday afternoon August 2nd – evening meal is served at 5p.m. with opening ceremony at 7 p.m.

Guest Speaker:  Dr Kirsten Traynor

of Flickerwood Apiary, Maryland, USA

Kirsten received the prestigious German Chancellor Scholarship from the Humboldt Foundation in 2006-2007. She drove over 50,000 miles throughout Western Europe to study the differences between European and American beekeeping, reporting her findings through 50+ published articles in National and International magazines. At the same time she interviewed scientists and medical doctors, gathering information for her books: Two Million Blossoms and Discovering the Medicinal Benefits of Honey.  

Kirstin is a past editor of Bee World and The American Bee Journal.
