The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015-2020 is released today. It has identified 81 actions to make Ireland more pollinator friendly. It is supported by 68 organisations, many of whom have accepted responsibility for specific actions. You can see the Plan here: www.biodiversityireland.ie/pollinator-plan
I have been chairing the Plan steering group and am conscious that it has taken up a lot of my ‘pollinator time’ this year. My focus can go back onto data from now on. The Plan will only be a success if it leads to a greater abundance and diversity in our pollinators across the landscape. It will mean that we will rely on you more than ever to help us collect that data. We hope that you’ll continue to give so generously of your time in submitting casual sightings and in taking part in the Bumblebee Monitoring Scheme.
Many of you have been extremely supportive of the development of the Plan, both during the consultation phase and through the Irish Pollinator Initiative. On behalf of the steering group, and from me personally, I want to extend our huge thanks.
The most important thing you can do to support the Plan is to continue to help us collect high quality data.
If you do want to take other actions we would ask that you help get the message out there about the Plan, either by word of mouth or through social media. We’re using #irishpollinatorplan on twitter to try and get the message to new audiences.
There are also actions that you can take to make your garden or local communities more pollinator friendly and we would ask that you get behind those if you can.
