Local honey direct from your beekeeper.

As well as being nice to eat did you know that honey has long been considered to be good for your health? This is because of it’s composition, made up of sugars i.e. glucose and fructose the minerals magnesium, potassium, calcium, sulphur, iron and phosphate. In fact, this superfood also contains vitamins B1, B2, C, B6, B5 and B3, though the levels of these can change depending on the quality of the nectar and pollen collected by the bees and weather conditions etc. In addition to the above, copper, iodine, and zinc exist in honey it in small quantities along with several types of hormones.

Honeybees are a vital part of any healthy agriculture economy as they pollinate our crops in field and orchard and we are therefore very dependent on them. In fact, about 50% of mankind’s diet is sourced directly or indirectly from crops pollinated by bees. Honey is also said to be useful for those with allergies. It is thought that if you source and eat local honey, it can fortify your immune system and help prevent seasonal allergies such as hay fever caused by local pollen. This is because local bees use the pollen from local plants and eventually it ends up in your ‘locally’ sourced honey.

Some beauty therapists claim that honey may also be good for your skin as it has the ability to attract water. You can use it instead of alpha-hydroxy facemasks because of its high content of the acid. The final benefit of honey that I want to mention is as a healer. For example, if you have a sore throat, drink some honey. As part of its chemical makeup honey has a natural anti-inflammatory effect, it is also good for helping to speed up the process of healing wounds and before modern medicine, it was used in battle to treat wounds because of its sterilising properties as honey also has different phytochemicals–chemicals found in plants and different foods, these kill viruses, bacteria, and fungus making it a good substitute for wound dressings.
