Information About the Lecturers and Workshop Managers in Each Category
Introduction to Beekeeping Series of Lectures – managed by: Rose Breslin from Dublin Beepeepers,’ Association
The Federation of Irish Beekeepers’ Associations welcomes you to our new Introduction to Beekeeping series of talks. These talks are designed to introduce you to the ancient craft of beekeeping and spark an interest in the wonderful world of honeybees.
If you attend all 6 of the talks, you will have completed Stage 1 of our New Education Framework and will be awarded a certificate of attendance which will allow you to advance your beekeeping education with FIBKA. You are free to attend as many talks as you wish there is no obligation to complete the course.
First 4 lectures are on Friday and 3 on Saturday. Attendance at the Seven Lectures are mandatory for certification and the opportunity to move on to the next steps in the FIBKA education framework. However, if you wish you can attend either day.

Speakers Include:
Brian has been keeping bees for 10 years. Brian’s apiaries are all kindly hosted on local farms. He has enjoyed helping out with study groups for the FIBKA exams with the County Dublin Beekeepers’
Association and would best describe his beekeeping as an out-of-control hobby.
Paul started showing honey in 2008, and qualified as a beemaster in 2013. He won 2 first places in. The National Honey Show in London in 2013. In 2015 was offered a place on the Executive Council of The National Honey Show in London, the first Irish person in its illustrious 99 year history, and he is also the trade hall coordinator for the national honey show. He qualified as a honey judge in 2017

Competent Level Beekeepers’ Series of Lectures
Speakers Include:
The series of lectures for Competent Beekeepers (formerly the Intermediate) is aimed at beekeepers who have mastered the basics of modern beekeeping and are moving on to the next stage.
There will be a focus on bee diseases in Ireland, disease prevention measures, bee pests and the effects of sprays.
There will be talks on selecting breeder queens and the important role of the drone in bee breeding. Lectures will cover topics like presenting honey for sale and for the show bench.
All lecturers are skilled and experienced beekeepers who are familiar with the challenges of modern beekeeping.

Professor Julia Jones University College Dublin, School of Biology and Environmental Science, Ireland. Julia is responsible for Teagasc Apiaries in Oakpark, Co. Carlow and Johnstown Castle in Co. Wexford. She and her team recently completed a major all island of Ireland apiculture disease survey involving over 600 beekeepers north and south. Julia is an experienced PhD supervisor and examiner, with six doctoral student completions and six current doctoral students undertaking mixed methods and qualitative research studies. | |
![]() | Noa Simon Delso: Sprays & Beekeeping Noa Simón Delso became Scientific Director and Project Manager at BeeLife at the beginning of 2021. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Science and Bioengineering. Since 2009, she has provided scientific-technical assistance to the European organisation BeeLife, following the evolution and implementation of European legislation on the subject of pesticide authorisation, agricultural and environmental policy. |
