Honeybee Slide Presentations for Primary Schools

The presentations have been developed in consultation with Primary School teachers in all classes to ensure the information is communicated in the most age-appropriate way.

Each presentation consists of a slideshow with photo and video content as well as slide specific notes for the presenter.

To make the most of them, we recommend they are used in conjunction with the guidance notes we provide and the separate hive inspection video – particularly useful if no live bees are available to observe.

The presentations are organised by different classes/age groups:

    • Senior Infants/ages 5-6
    • 1st Class/ages 6-7
    • 2nd Class/ages 7-8
    • 3rd Class/ages 9-10
    • 4th Class/ages 10-11
    • 5th Class/ages 11-12
    • 6th Class/ages 12-13

Bee on Dandelion

A Busy Honeybee Working in a Dandelion

Each presentation consists of a slideshow with photo and video content as well as slide specific notes for the presenter.

The intention is for them to provide the basis of the teaching session.

There is also a 5 minute video on opening and inspecting a hive which we would strongly advise the presenters to use in conjunction with the slide presentations.

We envisage that each slide presentation will be followed by a Q & A session, a hands-on introduction to the beekeeping equipment and viewing of the observation hive.

We would advise 2 beekeepers to be present so the class/group can be divided into smaller groups to best manage the practical element; especially when there is an observation hive available for viewing.
